BOARD OF EDUCATION

MEETING OF JUNE 3, 2004

A meeting of the Board of Education was held on Thursday, June 3, 2004, in the Media Center of Rocky Hill High School.  Chairman Bell called the meeting to order at 9:00 p.m.

 

The pledge of allegiance was recited.

Moved by Mrs. Schmidt, seconded by Mr. Bostwick, to accept the minutes of the May 6, 2004, Board of Education meeting as submitted.

2.         Adoption of Budget   

 

Mrs. Schmidt reported that 2004/05 budget was submitted at $20,640,975, which represented an increase of 8.74%.  Following several budget workshops, the Board further reduced the budget by $543,348, requesting $22,094,627, or an increase of 6.12%.  That was further reduced by $125,000, and the Board requested a budget of $21,969,627, an increase of 5.52%.

 

The district has offered an early retirement incentive, which has provided the mechanism for balancing the budget. 

 

Moved by Mrs. Schmidt, seconded by Mr. Geldof, to adopt the revised budget in the amount of $21,969,627, by incorporating the early retirement savings.

Chairman Bell thanked each Board member.  The district has never had such a smooth process.  She credited each Board member for their questions and input.

 

Chairman Bell thanked Mrs. Schmidt and the entire Finance Committee for leading the Board in the budget effort.  She noted the well-run series of budget workshops.

 

Moved by Mrs. Vargas, seconded by Mr. Bostwick, to adjourn the meeting at 9:05 p.m.
