Minutes of Meeting
A special meeting of the Finance
Committee of the Rocky Hill Board of Education was held on Tuesday, May 25,
2006, in the superintendent's conference room.
Present were: Committee Chair Anne
Schmidt; Committee Members Peter Arico and Rene Rivard; Board Chair, Neil
Geldof; Board Members Nadine Bell and Catherine Vargas; Supt. of Schools J. A.
Mr. Lindberg provided a report on the outcome of his request for health insurance proposals. He indicated that he was pleased with the number of responses he received (5) and attributed the good response to a combination of more carriers wishing to enter the municipal market and the fact that recently negotiated plan changes made our program more attractive to the carriers. He also indicated that he was pleased with the favorable results of the proposals. Although the proposals made by CIGNA and Anthem were close, Mr. Lindberg pointed out that only CIGNA provides a participating plan where any surplus claim funds would be returned to the Board of Education, something that has occurred several times in past years.
Mr. Lindberg recommended that the Board continue with CIGNA as the district’s health insurance provider, and the Committee concurred with his recommendation. CIGNA’s proposal resulted in an overall decrease of .6% in rates as compared to current rates. Mr. Turansky indicated that employee contributions toward the cost of insurance would increase by approximately $40,000 in 2006-07. That fact coupled with the rate decrease would result in budget savings of approximately $331,000.
The Committee commended Mr. Lindberg for his efforts.
