Board of Education

Facilities Committee

May 4, 2006

Minutes of Meeting

A special meeting of the Facilities Committee of the Rocky Hill Board of Education was held on Thursday, May 4, 2006, in the superintendent's conference room.  Present were:  Committee Chair Peter Arico; Committee Members Nadine Bell and Rene Rivard; Board Members: Charles McMonigle, Anne Schmidt, and Neil Geldof; Gregory P. Turansky; Supt. of Schools J. A. Camille Vautour and Council Member Lori Littmann.  The meeting was called to order at 8:15 a.m.

Feasibility Study - Land Availability

Committee members clarified the twelve potential parcels of land that could be considered for construction of a new school.  A request was made to clarify what restrictions exist on Sunnycrest Park and what steps would have to be pursued to remove said restrictions.

Mr. Arico proposed that the committee seriously consider Option 4 of the Schoenhardt report – building a new middle school.  After considerable discussion Mrs. Bell and Mr. Rivard indicated that the preferred solution should be Option 5 – a new high school.  Mr. Arico indicated he could support that proposition.

Before making a formal recommendation to the full Board, committee members requested further information on how much excess space would exist under Option 4 and Option 5.  Dr. Vautour was asked to seek information on this topic from Mark Hopper, Schoenhardt Architect.

The meeting adjourned 9:30 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
