Minutes of Meeting

 

 

A special meeting of the Finance Committee of the Rocky Hill Board of Education was held on Thursday, May 18, 2006, in the superintendent's conference room.  Present were:  Committee Chair Anne Schmidt; Committee Members Peter Arico and Rene Rivard; Board Chair, Neil Geldof; Board Members Nadine Bell, Mark Carberry, Charles McMonigle, and Catherine Vargas; Supt. of Schools J. A. Camille Vautour; and Director of Finance & Operations Gregory P. Turansky.  The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

 

2006-07 Budget

Mr. Turansky presented a document detailing proposed adjustments to the Board’s 2006-07 budget request to bring about compliance with the amount allocated by the Town Council.

 

Proposed Reductions

Special Education Tuition                                                                                  $  60,000

Stevens School Music Teacher Salary                                                             $    4,000

High School Family & Consumer Science Textbooks                                    $    2,049

High School Family & Consumer Science Curriculum Development          $       780

Health Insurance Premiums                                                                                $331,536

TOTAL                                                                                                                  $398,365

 

Committee members accepted Mr. Turansky’s proposals and Mrs. Schmidt indicated she would present a motion to the full Board to approve a revised budget in the amount of $24,259,627.

 

Bus Contract

Mr. Turansky presented the committee with proposed revisions to the bus contract.  Attached to these minutes is a copy of the proposed revisions.  Mr. Rivard raised some questions concerning the desirability of inserting stronger language relative to background checks and routine review of driver eligibility.  The contract was tabled and Mr. Turansky was asked to confer with the Board’s attorney on language revisions.

 

Air Conditioners at Stevens School

Dr. Vautour explained that special education situations were prompting requests for the air conditioning of two rooms at Stevens.  He alerted committee members other parents may come forward to request the air conditioning of all remaining rooms.  Committee members indicated the matter should be referred to Mr. Cooke for attention.

 

The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
