Minutes of Meeting

A special meeting of the Finance Committee of the Rocky Hill Board of Education was held on Wednesday, October 5, 2005, in the superintendent's conference room. Present were: Anne Schmidt, Neil Geldof, Peter Arico, Nadine Bell, Supt. of Schools J. A. Camille Vautour, Director of Finance & Operations Gregory P. Turansky and guests Randy Stewart and Thomas Bascetta of Double A Transportation, Inc. . The meeting was called to order at 8:10 a.m.

Mr. Turansky informed the Committee that Double A Transportation had sent a written request for assistance in paying fuel bills for the school bus fleet serving Rocky Hill. Mr. Turansky pointed out that although the service contract calls for Double A to provide fuel for their buses and that there is no contractual obligation on the Board’s part to provide assistance, the current cost of fuel is so far beyond expectations when the contract was put in place that he considered Double A’s request for assistance to be reasonable.

Mr. Bascetta pointed out that Double A had absorbed approximately $17,000 in fuel expenses over what had been budgeted for 2004-05, and could not afford to continue to do that this year with prices now even higher.

The Committee acknowledged the long-term favorable relationship between the Board and Double A, and following discussion, agreed that it would be in the Board’s best interest for the full Board of Education to consider providing assistance to Double A to insure the continuation of that relationship. Following receipt of a final proposal from Double A, the Committee intends for the Board to consider the proposal at the next regularly scheduled meeting of October 20, 2005.

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
