Special Board of Education Meeting Minutes

July 9, 2008

 

 

A Special Board of Education Meeting was held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the training/conference room.  Present were:  Board Chair, William MacDonald; Secretary, Nadine Bell; Board Members Charles McMonigle, Catherine Vargas, Frank Morse, Raffaella Calciano-Coler; Maria Mennella; and Superintendent, Jeffrey A. Villar.  The meeting was called to order at 6:06 p.m.

 

Executive Session

Catherine Vargas moved to go into Executive Session; Nadine Bell seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.  Board members discussed the employment of Assistant Superintendent of Schools and the Director of Athletics & Student Activities.  Dr. Villar stated that the search committee to select the Assistant Superintendent is recommending Mrs. Marian Hourigan.  Mrs. Hourigan is currently the principal of Thomas Hooker Elementary School in Meriden, CT.

 

The search committee to select the Director of Athletics & Student Activities is recommending Mr. Thomas McCabe for the position.  Board members discussed the recommendations of each candidate.  Mr. McCabe is currently a physical education & health teacher for the Glastonbury Public Schools.

 

Catherine Vargas moved to come out of Executive Session.  Nadine Bell seconded the motion.  It was so voted unanimously.

 

Catherine Vargas moved to call to order the Regular Session Meeting.  Charles McMonigle seconded the motion.  It was so voted unanimously

 

Raffaella Calciano-Coler moved to authorize the Superintendent to negotiate and execute a contract for employment with Marian Hourigan for the position of the Assistant Superintendent within the established parameters for salary and benefits.  Charles McMonigle seconded the motion.  It was so voted unanimously.

 

Raffaella Calciano-Coler, moved to authorize the Superintendent to employ Thomas McCabe as the Director of Athletics & Student Activities.  Charles McMonigle seconded the motion.  It was so voted unanimously.

 

Catherine Vargas moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:36 p.m.  Frank Morse seconded the motion.  It was so voted unanimously.
