UPCOMING EVENTS

Course Selection Process for 2012-2013

Counselors will be providing course recommendations and information on selecting courses for the 2012-2013 school year between 2/1/12-2/6/12.  Course selection sheets (signed by parents and students) are due back in Guidance by February 10, 2012. Counselors will then meet with students individually to go over their selections.

Please note:  Scholarships are now being advertised and posted in Naviance.

AP Bulletin for Students and Parents 2011-12

Registration for AP exams will begin in February.  Students will receive the AP Bulletin in their AP classes. In addition, a letter will be mailed home outlining the registration process.  To view the AP Bulletin, please visit the website at http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/ap-bulletin-students-parents-2011-12.pdf. 

PSAT Results

During the week of January 9, counselors met with students who took the PSAT to go over their results and to provide information on accessing My College QuickStart, an online resource to help prepare for the SAT using a student's individual PSAT results. Students should contact their counselor if they were unable to attend their scheduled appointment  More information can be found under PSATs in Standardized Testing. 

CRILA - SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS...

The Capital Region Interdistrict Leadership Academy (CRILA) provides current sophomores and juniors the opportunity to participate in a free year-long leadership program which includes a trip to Colorado in the summer. Students should possess the following skills:

- proven ability to lead others in positive pursuits;

- strong academic standing;

- work successfully with peers and adults; and

- have an interest in and commitment to community service.

Virtual High School (VHS)

Students interested in taking a Virtual High School (VHS) class for the spring should complete and return the application to Guidance ASAP.  Enrollment is limited per class. Other Opportunities:

Students interested in joining the Rocky Hill Police Department Explorer Program should pick up an application in Guidance. 

GUIDANCE UPDATES

Naviance - Family Connection

Counselors met with all freshmen (class of 2015) in November to provide access to Naviance and to administer a Personality-type assessment. 

In December, Guidance met with sophomores in Health classes to administer a career interest survey and with juniors to provide the opportunity and information to perform college searches.  Sophomores taking Health during 2nd semester will have the same opportunity to complete the career interest inventory once 2nd semester starts.  All current sophomores, juniors and seniors should have access to Naviance.  If not, please see your counselor.
