Change to Bus Routes and Bell Times for 2022-23
May 20, 2022
Dear Students, Families, and Staff Members,
I hope this email finds you well as we enter the final weeks of school year (SY) 2021-22. I am writing today with a quick update from last evening’s Board of Education meeting on bus routes and school bell times for SY 2022-23.
Bus Route Update for 2022-23
The Board of Education voted unanimously to combine the bus routes for Griswold Middle School and Rocky Hill High School, beginning with the first day of school in September. In addition, Moser School routes will be dedicated solely to Moser School students.
A significant factor influencing this decision was the desire to alleviate concerns about large ridership numbers on the current GMS/Moser routes. In several cases, we have over sixty 60 students assigned to various bus routes which brings the numbers close to the legal seating capacity (typically 72 on a standard school bus.) Conversely, high school bus routes generally experience extremely low ridership numbers because so many of our older students either drive to school on their own or are driven to school by fellow students or parents.
School Starting and Ending Times for 2022-23
The decision will impact the bell schedules (starting and ending times) for GMS and Rocky Hill High School only. GMS will return to the schedule that was in place for many years (7:45 a.m. to 2:35 p.m.).The high school’s schedule will be adjusted by five minutes (7:35 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.).
I have attached the adjusted bell schedules for SY 2022-23. You will note that all other schools and programs will continue to follow their current schedules and will not be affected by the adjustments to RHHS and GMS.
Best wishes for an enjoyable weekend.
